Oct 2022 - Mudaly Re-union
(blogged by Evan)
Granddad had a stroke. So we went to visit him in South Africa.
This is a blog of my second trip to South Africa. I was 8 month's old on my first trip.
It was Craig and Cara's first trip.
Sunday, 23 October
We flew from Cork via Heathrow and Johannesburg to Durban.
There was thunder and lightning on the plane.
Monday, 24 October
Aunty Judy and uncle Nishan met us when we arrived, and we went straight to uncle Nishan's cousin's house and lit fireworks - massive ones - because it was Diwali.
It was so cool. I had never seen fireworks so close up before. And when we were leaving we got sparkles.
We ate a weird white sweetmeat called burfee, and a delicious supper at uncle Nishan's house.
It was lovely - a good first impression of Africa.
Tuesday, 25 October
We went shopping at Gateway - 100 times bigger than Mahon Point.
And did a puzzle designed by Cara and printed by uncle Nishan.
Wednesday, 26 October
Today we saw at least 8 monkeys in the garden. It was so cool. I put a samoosa on the wall and they all came to eat it.
The ants around the house are massive. We also noticed a lot of lightning without thunder.
We visited uncle Nishan's factory, Purple Rain, where we saw a hologram.
Then we went to the Umhlanga promenade and got lost on our way back home.
Thursday, 27 October
Today was so fun. We went to the city, Durban beach front, and uShaka aquarium and reptile park. There were such good reptiles. My favourite was problably the black mamba or Toyeta (something like a gecko). When we got home (aka aunty Sagree and uncle Nishan's house) we got into the pool. It was so deep and big.
I saw lizards at home. The first was White with blue eyes. The second one was brown and at least an inch long. So cute. It was the best thing.
Friday, 28 October
We went to a jump place at Gateway. It was so fun, and we made friends and played tag.
Make your own pizza.
Cara was great with the Yoyo
Saturday, 29 October
We had breakfast at the driving range. I actually have a pretty good golf swing. On the way out we saw a few lizards. One golf course was over taken by deer - it was kinda funny.
Sugar Rush Park - Surrounded by sugar cane plantations!
We saw snakes and a scorpion for the first time. The scorpion was blue - so cute.
Make your own bunny chow
Sunday, 30 October
We went to Suncoast Casino for an afternoon walk and lunch.
We played 10-pin bowling at Gateway after supper. Craig had a strike!! and almost beat uncle Nishan
Monday, 31 October
We arrived late in CTN. Aunty Tess set up a massive sweet stash for us.
Tuesday, 1 November
Today we saw our cousins Zekiel and Zehan. Zehan, the baby, is so cute and Zekiel is so nice. We went for a walk today and we saw the ferries. It was awesome. Then we saw wild leasets - there was a baby leaset. We played tag at the layground for an hour - it was so fun. When we went to bed, the cat slept on my bed.
Wednesday, 2 November
Today a loud thunder woke me up. The weather was so bad we stayed indoors until Zekiel came home from school. Zekiel and I did our homework. Then we went to the trampoline park called Rush. Zekiel and I played a game of bog ball.
Thursday, 3 November
We went on a hop-on-hop-off bus tour and stopped at the zoo. It was really good. We went to a monkey jungle. The monkeys climbed all over us. On the way back the bus broke. The next bus did not have enough seats for us. We had to walk for another hour, I would say. At the end of the day we had a bbq (aka barbeque). The food was nice.
