North Coast Beaches!
We migrated from a cold Durban to spend our 21st anniversary on the warm beaches on the north coast.
Bhanga Nek
We camped on the beach!
with access to all these spots
Black Rock
However, the best gift was ... "... looking forward to catching up in the mountains ..."
The topic of discussion on our long, gentle, surprise walk from the Black Rock parking spot to the beach car park.
(You need a permit, from Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife office in Kosi Bay, to drive down to the beach.)
I have never seen such long whitewash waves before; with the best view of them from the Black Rock.
Nishan, trying, in vain, to torture the fish
Mabibi
The beach is beautiful, but the steep walk down to the beach is a big hurdle.
The campsites are large and lovely, but I really appreciated having our own clear, warm, shower.
We really missed our dads at this campsite. They would have been in their element here; helping with the arrangements, happy to be our in nature, and excitely relating similar stories from their younger days.
These roadtrip always leave us so grateful for the knowledge and experience that our parents and other elders shared with our unwilling younger selves; thankless gifts I hope we are able to justify receiving, by living our best life, and paying-it-forward with as much value and impact.
Lake Sibaya
Stunning and peaceful!
We thought it was the perfect spot for our morning coffee and rusks.
Only on the drive back, did I find out, on the internet, that "Lake Sibaya is home to KZN’s second largest population of hippo and crocodiles." !!
Nyoganani, Richards Bay (Nyogies)
After much complaining about my, now infamous, short-cuts and stopovers, Nishan agreed to take me to see Nyogies, as I had no intention of joining him there on a future fishing trip.
We learned quickly that you can easily get lost (even with satelite navigation), you must be able to drive on steep dunes, and enclose your campsite.
We didn't take any pics, but this is a good pic of the campsite
And far too soon, we had to head back home.
We're definitely going to repeat this trip in future winters. The beautiful beaches in Durban are more crowded and slightly cooler.
This was the roughest trip we have done so far. There were no restaurants close to the camps so I had to cook our meals. Luckily, this time, I was prepared.
There was no GSM network coverage most of the route, so we relied on the satelite navigation for all off-road driving.
I love the roadtrips as much as the destinations, and I think Nishan, despite doing all the driving, does too .
Next stop: In the Drakensberg with Hari and Leya!
